Lee Roy Selmon's life includes football scholarship, family service and involvement in the community. The first is the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on a Eufala farm. In second football, he was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was one of the starters for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi Award for being the best lineman in the country. Over the course of three seasons, Roy was on the field, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, the National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in the year 1975. Selmon received a bachelor's diploma from the University of California, Berkeley. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during his time in college. Following college, he relocated in Tampa and played for nine years with Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro for three occasions. After that, he began his professional career. The year 1988 was the first time he worked as an Account Relation Officer in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's 10 outstanding young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in size and weighed in at 256 pounds as a college player he captained the 1975 team. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as the associate director of sports. He has been inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. His parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. were awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
